The flu outbreak of 2013 may be especially dangerous for young children as their immune systems are not fully developed — a heartbreaking lesson learned in Garland, Texas, last week.
According to reports, Tahila Johnson, 6, complained that her body ached and Johnson’s parents took her to the Dallas Regional Medical Center. Doctors prescribed medication and discharged Tahila without testing her for the flu, charged Earl Johnson, the child’s father.
“They even told us they didn’t check her for flu, and just gave her [medication] and sent us out the door,” Earl Johnson told reporters.
Sadly, Tahila Johnson died in her sleep the next day.
