Cuba Gooding Jr. makes his Broadway debut in revival of ‘The Trip to Bountiful’

Cicely Tyson revealed that she had been pining for this role since the 1985 film was released. “I saw Geraldine [Page] in the film and I was so moved by the piece and had long been an admirer of her work. When I left the theater, I went to my agent and I said to him ‘You get me my ‘Trip to Bountiful’ and then I will retire!” she says laughing. “What I meant was ‘Get me one more role like that and I would retire.’ I said it because I wanted him to understand that I felt that if I could just get one more role that I could really sink my teeth into, I wouldn’t ask for anything else. I don’t think it will ever be my desire to retire!”
