Condola Rashad is the daughter of veteran actress Phylicia Rashad, so she has been around the craft her entire life. She appeared in last year’s “Steel Magnolias” remake as Shelby, and she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Stick Fly. Rashad revealed that, upon initially reading the part of Thelma for The Trip to Bountiful, she didn’t grasp all of her layers. But after meeting with the show’s director, she gained a more fully formed vision. “I thank Michael [Wilson] for meeting with me and revealing to me all of the character,” she admitted.
