Lewis’ career as a football player was nearly overshadowed — and derailed — by the events of January 31, 2000, and tarnished his image in the public’s eye. Following a party, Lewis’ friend Joseph Sweeting and Reginald Oakley allegedly got into the fight with Richard Lollar (24) and Jacinth Baker (21) near Cobalt Night Club in the upscale Buckhead section of Atlanta. Lollar and Baker died of stabbed wounds. Lewis, Sweeting and Oakley were charged with six counts of murder and Lewis was jailed in Atlanta.
