'Side Effects' movie review

Stars: Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum

Emily (Rooney Mara) and Martin (Channing Tatum) are putting their lives back together following Martin’s trip to the Big House after an insider trading conviction. Emily’s psychiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Banks (Jude Law), is helping her cope with the stress in her life through therapy and pharmaceuticals. An upset stomach prompts Banks to prescribe a new medication for Emily, thereby setting in motion new side effects: memory loss and homicidal mania. Really, can an anti-anxiety drug make one a killer, or is Emily being framed by diabolical forces? Her devoted hubby has promised to restore their lifestyle to what it was before his trip to Club Fed, but is he willing to sacrifice Emily in the process? Don’t miss this smart film. –p.d. lee
