JET's editor responds to Fantasia's Instagram rant

Landing the cover of a major magazine is normally a celebratory moment for celebrities. Well, Fantasia Barrino  got a cover but she’s not very happy about it. Fantasia recently sent some photos to JET to be used on their March 18 cover, but the magazine chose to use a year old photo instead.

The JET cover features the singer, who’s promoting her upcoming album, The Side Effects Of You, in a pink and white camisole  with  her infamous spiked hair. It’s a great side profile of Fantasia, highlighting her flawless complexion; however, Fantasia was not  too pleased with the image.

In fact, the American Idol winner used Instagram to let the world know how upset she is with JET. Thursday, Fantasia posted a defaced copy of the JET cover and included a message requesting a public apology.

The caption read:
“This saddens Me!!! It is clear that this picture is 10 Years Old and JET Magazine puts it on the Cover!! After I send them the NEW LOOK AND DIRECTION. . SAD!!! I WANT A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM JET. Now im not sure if the interview is correct. SEE!! America they and use me as they crash Dummy BUT NO MORE. IF I DONT STAND FOR SOMETHING ILL FALL FOR ANYTHING.”

Although Fantasia did  not get an apology from JET, she did receive a response from Mitzi Miller, JET editor-in-chief, which was released on Friday, February 22: “JET magazine is honored to have Fantasia grace the cover of its March issue. It is unfortunate that Fantasia is displeased with the cover selection, however JET stands by its decision. As standard editorial practice, JET consulted with Fantasia’s team, but reserves the right to select the image we deem as most appropriate for JET’s brand and reflective of the cover story sentiment. JET continues to root for Fantasia’s success and encourages her fans to pick up the new issue.”

The weekly publication further explained that the images that were sent from Fantasia’s PR team were not photos that could be used. They described the photographs by saying the singer did not send “clean, beauty profile shots as needed for a cover.”
