While Isaac Hayes was winning the Academy Award for his contributions to Shaft, contemporary Curtis Mayfield wasn’t quite as recognized for his equally-brilliant score and soundtrack for Superfly. This elegy for the character of “Fat Freddie” is one of many brilliant moments on the soundtrack.
