“No one is born with a gun in their waistband. We’re taught how to use a gun. I can deal without having another young black victim of gun violence in this ER. I don’t care how tough they are and how big they are on their block. When they are laying on that stretcher in the ER, they all have the same look. I see it on their face. It’s not a scowl, a frown or look of anger on their face. It’s a look of confusion. They can’t believe that their life is about to be over. This is it for them. It’s almost as if that person is trying to hold on and capture all their memories up until that point in their life. Most often they are teens or young adults. They began reflecting on their life.”
