Chestnut’s other bad habit is poker. And even though he knows his limits, he says “I wouldn’t recommend for anybody to get into [it] because, with poker, you really have to put in a lot of hours to be good at it and, if you put in a lot of hours and you’re not good, you lose a lot of money and, even when you make the right decisions in poker, you can play a hand perfectly and you could still lose the hand.”
One thing that you won’t see often is Chestnut losing his cool. “It takes a lot to get me upset,” he shares. But like that quiet kid in school who gets pushed too far, he says “once I get upset, it takes a lot to really bring me back down.” Actually of the many characters he’s played, the only one where his anger stands out is that of the handsome, professional athlete Lance Sullivan in The Best Man, who finds out that his perfect soon-to-be wife has been unfaithful.
Speaking of The Best Man, yes, it’s true there is a sequel — finally. Due out around November, Chestnut is looking forward to audiences seeing the film currently titled The Best Man Holiday. “Everyone is coming back for this movie,” he beams.
As for specific plot points, he’s keeping mum. “I can’t really reveal that. You’re going to have to see the movie,” he teases. “I will say that my character is still married. I will say that he’s going through some things,” he says when pressed a little further. And then he makes a promise that every fan wants to hear: “I can say that it’s probably going to be better than the first one.”
