The Beach Boys artistic leader became increasingly erratic and unreliable after taking ever-increasing quantities of LSD in the late 60s as his band’s popularity declined. By the mid-1970s, Wilson was also addicted to cocaine and a Beach Boy in name only, as his brothers Carl and Dennis assumed leadership of the group. He was able to re-emerge clean and sober in the 1980s.
