Motown’s biggest solo star throughout the 60s and early 70s, the singer-songwriter fell into the grips of cocaine addiction in the mid-to-late 70s. He would sometimes eat it and turned to freebasing, and his musical career stalled for years. Sadly, he was murdered by his father just as he was making a return to music in the mid-1980s.
