Let employers broach the topic of money when being promoted: Of course you expect to receive compensation commensurate with your new position, but avoid making it seem like you are in it “to get paid” or in it just for the money. That would make you look like a hired gun who will bolt the position and/or company the moment a better offer comes along. More than likely, the subject of salary will float to the surface during the lateral part of the interview process if you are indeed one of the finalists for the promotion.
