Twenty years ago, having a cell phone was considered a status symbol and only the very wealthy could afford such a luxury. Back then, a call could easily cost you over a dollar a minute, but fast-forward to now, and even elementary school kids are carrying cell phones.
Now that cell phones have become a part of our everyday lives, many of us have found ourselves actually becoming more addicted to our cell phones than to any other device that we might use on a regular basis. So how do you know if you are addicted to your cell phone? Try seeing if any of the following symptoms describe the relationship between you and your phone:
Even when you’re at home, if you need to make a call, you instinctively reach for the cell phone instead of the house phone, which is just as close. With the newer minute-friendly cell phone plans, it’s gotten easier to use the device as your major tool of communication; more people are getting rid of their house phones altogether.
Another symptom of cell phone addiction is that it’s never more than 12 inches from you. If you have a hard time being more than a foot away from your cell phone, it’s likely that you may have an addictive situation going on there.
One more symptom of severe cell phone addiction is when you simply can’t put it down. If you’re not one of these people, you’ve definitely seen one; at any time of day or night, their cell phone is practically glued to their hands, and it’s the be-all and end-all solution for their everyday lives. Want music? Plug in your earphones and listen to it from your cell. Want to surf the net? Look at your cell phone. Want to find food? Look at your cell phone.
Honestly, with so many things that can be done from your cell phone, it’s no wonder that most of us are addicted.
