Artist Adam Guichard continually perfects his craft

Adam Guichard 2

Coming from a family of artists can be intimidating particularly when an older sibling has set the standard for art and its value and overall appreciation. Adam Guichard is slowly making his foray into Chicago’s art world and at a recent exposition, he too, had audiences lined up to purchase his work.  –tony binns

Talk about your work and your artistic vision.
… You know artists say they always “hit the wall” at some point.  Well, I have seven different art series — African Romance, Kalescope series, Jazz series; Seven Degrees of Separation and three other series I didn’t bring.  My rationale behind doing this is so I could never … “hit the wall.”  There is always a thing; always a thought process.

Describe your evolution as an artist.
I am a self-taught artist — never took an art class.  All my representations are over the years is through trial-and-error, life’s experience and most importantly telling the story of the African Diaspora through my eyes and understanding.

Who are some of the artists you admire?
My brother, but I have a lot of influences.  Picasso, my father, my cousin, William Dawson; I come from an arts family [and] literally [when I was] growing up I was surrounded by art, but I never really took the “bull by the horns” until I became 22.

What has Delta Sigma Theta’s “Artitude Is … Exposition” experience been like for you?
For me it has been an eye-opening experience, in that … being an artist you can always gravitate into yourself being introverted, but coming to an event like this you get to appreciate other artists’ artwork and see different forms of what we call art.  Seeing it can be related in different forms.
