The backlash over Rick Ross‘s “U.O.E.N.O.” lyrics have continued to divide opinion. Particularly among hip-hop artists, there have been mixed reactions to Rozay’s rhymes, which referenced slipping a girl a Molly without her knowing, then taking her home for sex; also without her knowledge.

Midwestern rap star Kid Cudi was asked about the controversy during a recent appearance on New York City’s Hot 97. Cudi was there to promote his just-released new album, Indicud, but he didn’t hesitate to share his perspective on the lyrics.

And to Cudi, Ross should’ve known better.

“I read about that [backlash]” Cudi shared. “And I normally don’t like to have opinions about people’s crafts — I like Rick Ross, I think his stuff is dope, but that lyric, in particular, it’s like come on, man, it’s super sketch.”

“It’s a super sketchy line,” Cudi continued. “But you know, people can get caught up in the artistry sometimes and I met Rick Ross like once or twice when we were in Hawaii working with Kanye years back and he was a really nice guy first. His energy, he’s a really gentle person. You can tell the n—a’s got a good heart, he means well, you know? You just kind of get caught up in the artistry, he was just writing fresh a– raps. He was thinking of some cold lines. There’s a responsibility.”
