Over the last year, few other arenas have been more affected the LGBT rights movement than the world of sports, and before this year, the question many people asked was, “Is the world ready for an openly gay pro baller?” But with the culture around us so quickly and drastically changing its view of the LGBT community, the question quickly changed from “if” to “when?” Yesterday, the world finally got its answer when NBA free agent Jason Collins revealed in a Sports Illustrated cover feature that he is gay.
Understandably, Collins’ decision to come out has created even more questions about LGBT athletes in sports, and while some of those questions have yet to be answered, his decision is nothing short of admirable and groundbreaking.
