Antoine Dodson shocked the world when he became a YouTube celebrity in 2010 with his viral “Hide yo wife, hide yo kids” video. But the openly gay celebrity may have just outdone himself when he announced last week, via a lengthy Facebook post, that he’s renounced his homosexuality and wants to have a wife. Now, Dodson is claiming that homosexuality can be lifted away from anyone.
In an interview with HuffPost Live last Friday, Dodson explained, again, that his decision to renounce his homosexuality came from his readings of the bible.
“It’s not praying the gay away because it can be lifted,” Dodson told Menendez. “If you really want to change your life, and just get rid of it, then you can. That’s what I’m doing. I’m not saying I don’t have the memories of my past, because I do, and I see it every day in my mind. But I’m trying to move away from that and become a better person. That’s all.”
Dodson decscribed his days as a gay man as “dumb,” and explained that he made the mistake of trying to imitate the “art of a woman” instead of “being with that.”
“When you get older and you get mature, things in your life change,” said Dodson, maintaining his desire to live as a heterosexual “True Chosen Hebrew Israelite descendant of Judah” and have a wife and kids.
Dodson also claimed that he wanted others to see his story of “deliverance” from a gay life so that they can see that it can be done as well.
“I want people to see my past,” he said. “I want them to see me and see what I was delivered from.”
Unfortunately, that’s problematic in numerous ways. Although everyone has a right to their religious freedom, we’ve all seen through copious amounts of testimonies, research and investigations that homosexuality, like any other sexuality, can’t be prayed away or “lifted” through therapy.
Although some will undoubtedly praise Dodson for renouncing his sexuality, the reality is that many people simply don’t believe him. Unfortunately, LGBT people who aren’t yet comfortable in their own skin may see his story and think that they are unworthy of love and acceptance and should change themselves to gain approval, and that is far worse than any supposed “deliverance.”
