It’s been a rough few days for 90s rap stars.
With the sudden death of Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly of Kris Kross, and the arrest of former Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Shyheim on drug and weapons possession charges, rap stars have seen a rough few days. Former Fugee and Grammy-winning superstar Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion on yesterday. Now it looks like one of the 1990s most popular rap groups is coming apart at the seams.
Naughty By Nature has been a consistent concert draw over the past few years, touring on the strength of their numerous hits from the 1990s. But after a couple of inflammatory tweets from frontman Treach, it appears as though the trio is on the verge of calling it quits.
While no reason was given, Treach went into a profanity-filled Twitter rant against his bandmate Vinnie, aka “Vin Rock.”
“Vinnie from NAUGHTY BY NATURE is Officially FIRED!!” the tweet read. “Anything he does besides shows til Sept is Frugazy!! F–k him & the Ground he Walks!!”
“Anybody that f–ks with that B-tch ass N—a Don’t F–k with Me!!” a second tweet from Treach’s account said.
The trio of Treach, Vin Rock and KayGee were consistent chart-toppers in their heyday, garnering numerous platinum hits like “O.P.P.,” “Feel Me Flow” and “Hip Hop Hooray.”
