Beyoncé and several other stars came under fire after the Sound of Change Concert in Great Britain this past weekend. The event was intended to promote empowerment amongst women, but several of the entertainers, including Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé, were criticized for not living up to the night’s intended message.

Specifically, some fans were taken aback by the outfits many of the superstars wore.

Many viewers voiced their disapproval on social media. ““Yup, u all about women empowerment and you get Jennifer Lopez in a concert barely dressed, shaking her a–!!! True sexism,” tweeted one fan. “@Chime for change I’m all for your message…but these skimpy costumes and sex dance moves really don’t do much for womens’ empowerment,” added another.

Actress/singer Jada Pinkett Smith, however, posted a statement on Facebook defending the ladies and admonishing those who feel it’s their job to tell an empowered woman how to dress.
