Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up about her mother’s drug addiction and how it motivated her later on life in the July edition of Redbook magazine. In the article, Jada’s mom, Adrienne Banfield Jones, recalls that she had Pinkett Smith at very young age.
“I had mommy when I was very young and then I got addicted to drugs after mommy was born,” Jones, who was barely older than 12-year-old Willow when she found out she was pregnant, told her granddaughter.
While Jones admits to using drugs until Jada was 18 years old, the actress used the troubled life of her mother to do and be better. After Jada graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts in 1989, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, landing roles in several television shows and feature films.
Despite their previous troubles, Jada remains close to her mother and even reassured her mom during the interview that she had no resentment. “‘I turned all of that into power. So I used those things as motivation,”‘ said Pinkett Smith.
Pinkett Smith also discusses the numerous rumors that have surrounded her marriage to actor Will Smith.
