Certified Sports and Entertainment Agent
Field of Dreams Sports & Entertainment, LLC
What inspires you to show at work every day?
What inspires me to show at work every day is being passionate about my career choice as a sports and entertainment agent, helping others acquire their dreams by transitioning them to the next level. Two things about working as an agent in a sports and entertainment industry are you meet and build relationships on a daily basis and of course being your own boss are important factors for me.
How did you determine your career path?
My career path came about while in college when I was a cheerleader at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. and learning the game of sports and how it worked was amazing to me. I have always been into sports and entertainment as well as wanting to become a sports and entertainment lawyer. So after graduation, I worked for a sports agent/defense attorney and he introduced me to the sports agent side of things, while I worked as a contractor at his agency. I discovered really fast that my personality and skill set did not match that of being in a courtroom all day. So I started doing a little research and discovered that I’m qualified to have the same credentials to become an agent. I then decided to intern and work a few other places like Career Sports and Entertainment, Georgia Force, Diamond Sports and Entertainment, as well as the Atlanta Falcons before starting my business FODSE , Field of Dreams Sports & Entertainment, in January 2010.
What other industries connect to your career choice?
I run a full service sports and entertainment agency. I provide a service that is beyond measure. Other industry connects are in-house with the clients that I represent as well as the licenses that I hold within the sports industry. All of my clients are a brand within themselves on the entertainment side I have worked with a variety of people and companies, but clients currently under contract consist of The Debonair DJ, Charles “DJ PNUT” Wilson, celebrity photographer William Kennedy with Images by Kennedy, super producer Corey “Mr. Hanky” Denard, and celebrity tattoo artist Miya Bailey. A company that contracts me out is Marketing Matrix and on the sports end licensed National Basketball Players Association Agent.
If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing about the world it would be people’s perception on wealth and success and how it is measured. Success is a process and it first starts with your way of thinking and your process of implementing those thoughts and dreams into action.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I am my biggest fan which is awesome, but at times I am my biggest critic which means I can be hard on myself at times when I know things could have been handled differently.
Define innovation methods you apply to your business and life.
Innovative methods that I apply to my business are always matching my client’s dreams and attributes with the right opportunity so they will grow successfully within a certain timeframe. I always have their best interest at heart. I will meet their requests, advise them on deals and contracts that are in their favor as well as those that are not. I believe in staying positive and surrounding myself around people that have similar goals and attributes that I possess. Putting God first, family second, and career third, but at the same time no one ever misses a beat because I push myself to the max now so that later I can watch my company pump like a great oil machine later.
Describe goal setting methods you use and how you evaluate you success.
I have placed myself on a 5-year-plan as of right now I started this business in January 2010 with one client and now I have worked with major companies and clients doing events like Bakers Shoes, BeBe, NewEra, Karen Millen, artist listening events, beauty and fashion shows with Star Scott, Si4S, celebrity photoshoots with IBK Studios, and I have incorporated major sponsorships into these event. I have built the entertainment side of the business and now I am in the process of adding athletes as well as new clients on both spectrums. Sometimes, what I have learned while doing this over the last three years that it is not always about adding a number which is quantity, it is more so about working with the clients you have and increasing their quality and value. In the next two years, which will be 2015, I would like to add more agents and clients on a consistent basis fulfilling their dreams and have FODSE pumping in full affect.
Which information and increased skill methods do you use?
Information and increased skill methods that I use are brushing up my skills on creating and negotiating contracts for my clients. I negotiate all deals on their behalf and do all of the talking. I continuously do research on industry standards to make sure all of my clients’ needs are being met and that they are paid what they are worth.
Names 3 books that changed how you saw life and you recommend to others.
Books that I have read that have changed my view on this industry are Raving Fans by Kenneth Blanchard and Your Dream Job Game Plan by Molly fletcher.
Describe why lifelong learning is important to you.
Lifelong learning is important to me because things are constantly updated and changing on a regular basis as career women I must stay abreast on the latest updated information within my industry so that I can continuously update my clients. One thing that can break you in this industry is someone who has all the answers. If you have all the answers then there is no room for improvement.
Describe the voice of success that you her in your head.
The voice of success that I hear in my head is self-motivation. I am my biggest fan and I encourage myself on a daily basis to continue to strive toward my goal of staying a great agent and manger and to continue to put my clients in positions to help them stay successful. My family, friends and clients also speak words of great motivation when things seem a little fuzzy.
Technology plays what role in your daily life?
Technology plays a major role in being a sports and entertainment agent because we use it as a promotional tool to show companies the value of or clients based off of their fan base through Facebook, websites, instragram, and twitter
What role does music and cultural event define your self-identity?
I have learned so much about music and cultural events from working with the Debonair DJ, DJ PNUT and super producer Mr. Hanky they have introduced me to a world that as a listener, who was just once upon a time on the outside looking in. Now that I am on the inside looking out I absolutely understand their craft and have a different respect for their work and research that they do. Working in the music world has it pros and cons and I am happy. I have a 360-view versus peripheral vision because of my client base.
Describe your favorite vacation spot.
A favorite vacation spot for me is going back to Baton Rouge, La. to see the latest and great things about my Southern University.
