The creators of both Xbox One and PS4 consoles aiming to draw in “non-gamers” to buy into their products by adding features like apps and Netflix but are aiming to please the hard-core gamers who are going to invest in their products. When it comes to features, critics and gamers are all in accord that the PS4 provides consumers with more features that are wallet friendly and allow greater flexibility. Although the two devices are similar in aesthetics ( black, angular boxes), the user experience on the PS4 seems to reign far superior to it’s competitor, Xbox One. Neither console is released yet, which may give the makers of Xbox One some time to rethink some of their biggest user experience issues. Below are list of features and services for both devices that may sway consumers in the direction of the PS4.
Game Sharing
Sony, the makers of the PS4 have made the new console compatible with games from prior models. In addition, PlayStation users can still swap, borrow and resell hard copies of games. Microsoft, makers of the Xbox One, have limited game sharing by restricting the amount of shares to one per user and the game can only be shared with an individual who has been on your Xbox live list for more than 30 days.
Constant Connection
With the Xbox One, users must maintain Internet connection and if the console is disconnected for more than 24 hours the games will no longer function, a restrictive “feature” that the PS4 does not have. Is this a gaming console or a probation officer?
Cost
Expected price of Xbox One: $499
Expected price of PS4: $399
When it boils down to it, people want as much as they can get for the lowest price. With all the restrictions and requirements for a device meant for entertainment purposes, is the Xbox One really worth an extra $100?
Game Library
Xbox One is almost like the Apple of games: restrictions, restrictions, restrictions. The PS4 has a vast selection of first-party studios and allows independent game studios to publish their titles without Sony assistance.
