No. 2 Babyface

No one dominated 90s R&B like Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Both with and without his partner, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, ‘Face ushered in a sophisticated era of R&B. He began as one of the principal songwriters of the New Jack Swing era–and became one of the songwriters most responsible for the genre’s demise in the mid-90s.

Notable songs: “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love To You” (Boyz II Men), “Another Sad Love Song,” “7 Whole Days” (Toni Braxton), “Red Light Special,” “Baby, Baby, Baby” (TLC), “Don’t Be Cruel” (Bobby Brown), “Miracle” (Whitney Houston), “Not Gon’ Cry” (Mary J. Blige)
