On her fourth album, the singer from Yonkers began to discard her “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” image and sound–pushing into more adult contemporary territory. But this is no bland “crossover” attempt, MJB’s heartfelt lyrics and earnest vocals are still in place, albeit with a much more sophisticated perspective.
