The BET Music Matters Showcase has become one of New York City’s premiere music events for up-and-coming artists. Future superstars like Miguel, J. Cole, Melanie Fiona and Elle Varner have all graced that stage as ambitious unknowns at some point. On July 9, the latest crop of talented newcomers took their next steps into the spotlight.

From Bronx, N.Y. native Domo, to the hip-hop soul trio Trillogy, there was no shortage of talent on the stage at SOB’s in Manhattan. Hosted by Buttahman and featuring DJ Lyve, the show also featured appearances by hitmakers Sean Garrett and Bryan-Michael Cox, who showed support to the fresh faces onstage.

The crowd was early and enthusiastic — and once things got started it wasn’t hard to see why this showcase has become such a breeding ground for stars. Top shelf talent and a great atmosphere led to a memorable night for the audience and artists alike.
