The Greater Houston Black Chamber board of directors announced on Monday, July 8 that the 2013 board of directors’ nominations will be open to the general public. The Greater Houston Chamber is the city of Houston’s first African American civic organization and has continued to be the leading organization for business development and community outreach partnership opportunities since its inception in 1935.
The organization has built an impressive database of more than 2,000 unique resources and members, including the Port of Houston Authority, Shell, Marathon Oil, CenterPoint Energy, Reliant Energy, United Healthcare, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative, Greater Houston Partnership, Rice University, Houston Community College System, Texas Southern University and the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council.
Nominations for the Black Chamber board of directors must be received by July 15. Applicants must meet certain criteria such as, being able to drive growth for small businesses in the community, agree to donate large amounts of time to projects, participate in the Greater Houston Black Chamber events and help to increase membership.
