David Talbert’s Baggage Claim movie advance screening and after reception was a great ending to Friday’s National Urban League national conference in Philadelphia. Not only was the movie an excellent romantic comedy with all of my favorite stars including leads Paula Patton and Derek Luke, along with Jill Scott, Taye Diggs, Taraji Henson, Boris Kodjoe, Djimon Hounsou, Trey Songz, Christina Milian, Lauren London, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Jenifer Lewis and more, but Luke and Talbert stayed after the screening to take questions from fans.
It was refreshing to see all of the characters painted realistically yet in a comedic way. Everybody in the movie was really somebody that you know or have interacted with in your real life (the good, bad, frustrating, ugly and stupid). Of course, these characters are a “little more” of what ever those traits you recognize and that’s what really makes comedy … comedy. While being funny and entertaining, the main theme of this movie was based on the very real scenarios that many people go through while finding “Mr. or Ms. Right.”
We all love Jill Scott’s music but she and Jenifer Lewis (Paula’s five-time married mother) do a great job as main supporting actors who you see from the beginning to the end of the movie.
Mark your calenders now to go see this movie on September 27.
