Nevada Senator John Ensign was forced to resign after it was discovered that he was having an affair with Cynthia Hampton. Cynthia was the wife of Ensign’s friend and former aide, Doug Hampton. Doug discovered the affair after seeing text messages from Ensign on Cynthia’s phone. Ensign recently had to pay $54,000 in civil penalties to Federal Election Committee for paying the ex-mistress $96,000 from the campaign funds.
