When it comes to hip-hop’s new class of misfits, few other emcees have garnered as much attention, shock value and acclaim than Odd Future’s front man, Tyler, The Creator. Though the West Coast emcee has been blazing his own successful trail for self-proclaimed weirdo, hipster emcees in the game, he’s now claiming that he’s preparing to step away from the mic for good in the near future.
In a recent interview with Ptwschool.com, Tyler spoke about his many inspirations outside of rap. He plans to retire from rapping in the next three years to focus on other ventures, which, for now, include his own Adult Swim TV show, “Loiter Squad,” and a record label.
“Rap isn’t even my f—– —I mean, I love it, but like that’s not what I really draw a lot of inspiration from at all…I’m just trying to invest in s—, so I don’t have to make music three years from now and I could be rich off of that. I am not kidding,” said Tyler.
Well, we can definitely say that hip-hop will be a lot less colorful without Tyler behind the microphone, but he’s not the only rapper eyeing retirement. Check out some other emcees who have talked retirement below. – nicholas robinson
