BI-LO grocers have announced an immediate voluntary recall of Gold Star 93% Lean Ground Beef. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the recall was made after the company found that the product might be contaminated with E. coli. The recall is part of a larger ground beef recall issued by National Beef Packing Company that was announced yesterday, July 31. There are four states included in the recall including Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. BI-LO has removed all 93% lean ground beef meat from shelves in all stores. The suspected contaminated meat is coded UPC #24370700000. Winn Dixie, who also uses the National Beef Packing Company, has also issued a recall on fresh 93 percent Lean Ground Beef from all stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. The product was shipped to stores around July 18. See other foods that have been recalled in the U.S. this year.
