Nominate your favorite person for faces of Black Houston

Tiffany L Williams

Name: Tiffany L. Williams

Title: Multimedia Coordinator for the Defender Media Group/CEO of Twice Media Productions, LLC.

How did you get your start in journalism?

I am a native of Chicago, Illinois, but I received my master of arts degree in journalism with an emphasis in documentary film-making from Michigan State University. I started off working for the Defender as an intern and was hired a year later to oversee the multimedia department for their print and online publications.  I also act as CEO of Twice Media Productions, LLC where we specialize in photography and video production.

Why did you want to oversee the Faces of Black Houston project?

We spend our entire lives in the presence of others. We see them in the car next to us at the stop light, walking past us in the grocery store, or in front of us in line at the movies.  But as fast as the world moves, we rarely have an opportunity to get to know the people we share these infinitesimal moments of our lives with. Whatever the story, everyone has their own to tell. Some of these stories reveal moments of struggle, of heartache, of triumph, or resiliency and joy. As we zoom past each other’s everyday life, we never stop to say hello and learn these remarkable stories. The man on the bus sitting next to you could volunteer at the children’s hospital every weekend. The bank teller could double as a burlesque dancer by night. The woman speaking loudly on her cell phone could be speaking to one of her three hearing impaired children. Whatever the story, everyone has their own to tell. With the Defender’s Faces of Black Houston project, we invite you to step inside the lives of those you’re with everyday but never truly see.

Why is it so important for the community to get involved and nominate someone?

The reason a project like Faces of Black Houston is so important is because it has the potential to help us grow as a community. When you get to know the people around you and hear their stories, you can benefit from the lessons that they have learned and in-turn help others. Be it wisdom, kindness or inspiration, we all have something to offer and gain from a project like this.
