Hair, beauty and media mogul Bernard Bronner

Bernard Bronner

What inspires you to show up at work everyday?
Making a positive difference in people’s lives and challenging myself. I always try to excel and create more challenges for myself. Also, there are my hopes and aspirations and my urges and passion. At the end of the day, I picture great success and accomplishments that keep me working hard everyday.

How did you determine your career path?
I determined my career path when I was born into a business where my father taught me to work hard, love what I do, and never stop dreaming of being the best.

What other industries connect to your career choice?
Other industries that connect with my career choice of beauty products will of course be beauty schools, celebrities and movie stars – because everybody wants to look good and be presentable.

Describe the skill sets that are essential to future business leaders and innovators.
It’s keeping abreast of technology. Technology is making the world smarter and future business leaders and innovators need to know how to manage their business and future lives with a touch of a button.

Define innovative methods you apply to your business and life.
Innovation is the fulfillment of your dreams. It’s the satisfactions of your success. Therefore, the innovative method I apply to my business life is to instruct those around me succeed in making their dreams come true. To work hard and never give up and to take the road less traveled to making their desires a reality.

How do you set goals and evaluate your success?
I set my goals using the same principle I was taught as a young man. I was taught by a powerful man to always know upfront what I want, go after it and never give up until you accomplish your goal. I evaluate my success by keeping a keen eye on the prize. I never stop running for what I want and rejoicing when I reach the home plate.

Who do you consider peers in your field? Who is setting a great example of best practices?
I consider the president of Dudley Products, president of Nairobi Produce and the president of Ashtae Products as peers in my field of beauty products. They support the Bronner Bros. Hair Show, year after year, without fail. They have large exhibit spaces where they sell their products to attendees at the bi-annual hair show. It works two-fold: they support us by purchasing exhibit space and we support them by having attendees buy their products.

How do you stay abreast of changes in your field?
I am a telephone and computer whiz. You will never catch me without either my iPhone or my computer.

Name your favorite role models for success in two industries.
My favorite role model for success in the beauty industry is and will continue to be my father, Dr. Nathaniel H. Bronner, Sr., founder of the Bronner Bros. Company. He took a small company and made in into an empire. My next role model is President Barack Obama. In politics, he took an anatomy of promises and dreams and made it into a nation of hope.

Name three books that changed how you saw life that you would recommend to others.
Your Money or Your Life – It taught me to think of money as life energy and ask myself, “How much is enough?”
Every Day a Friday by Joel Osteen – It taught me not to wait until Friday to be happy, but to enjoy everyday of my life as if it were a Friday.
As a Man Thinketh – It holds the key to success.

Explain why lifelong learning is important to you.
As long as we have breath, we have the ability to learn new and exciting things. Once you stop learning new things, you leave a blank spot in the world that moves with motivation.

Describe the voice of success that you hear in your head.
“Keep pushing even when the trolley seems to stop.”

What role does technology play in your daily life?
The tools of technology apps that have made a difference in my life are the apps for traveling, dining out, movies, photos, and music.

How do music and cultural events define your self-identity?
I love listening to soft music while I’m relaxing. Attending cultural events makes a believer out of me that cultural events influence a person and how they deal with the difference in this huge world.

Define your personal culture.

My personal culture is one of racial and religious concerns.

Describe your favorite vacation spot.
My favorite vacation spot is Africa. Not only do I enjoy Africa’s culture, but I also learn about my heritage.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would you change?
If I could change one thing in the world, it would be that we as all races of people can put our differences aside and love each other.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change?
If I could change one things about myself, it would be that I would take a break and slow down, enjoy my surroundings more.
