Adam Jones says he encountered racism during a recent game against the San Francisco Giants. Jones, who plays for the Baltimore Orioles, lashed out against a fan on Twitter after the game.
“I want to thank whatever slapd–k threw that banana towards my direction in the last inning. Way to show class u jackass.”
However, Jones received some backlash on Twitter after posting the tweet. He later tweeted that he would leave the social network soon.
In Europe, black soccer players are often harassed and pelted with bananas by racist fans of the sport.
Officials for the Giants said they didn’t know about the incident and would be reviewing video tape of the game to see what exactly occurred.
