Lee Daniels tells the compelling story of a butler who serves eight presidents in The Butler. Forest Whitaker stars as the butler Cecil Gaines and Oprah Winfrey sizzles as his wife Gloria. The two give touching performances as a couple who raises two sons amid the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement. In a Q-and-A after the Atlanta screening Thursday, Aug. 8, director Lee Daniels said that “the movie is about the love between father and son.”
Forest Whitaker echoed that sentiment noting that “What you see in the movie is the weight of the experiences Cecil Gaines has been through. The movie was about healing and love,” Whitaker said. The Butler opens Aug. 16.
