Lil Wayne compared to Allen Iverson

Impact:

Lil Wayne and Allen Iverson both possessed superior talent. The first three albums from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter series can be considered three of the best albums of its era. Likewise, Allen Iverson was nearly unstoppable in the NBA from 1996 until 2007. They went up against the best and made considerable arguments about their place among the greats. Allen Iverson often challenged Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant with a fearless David vs. Goliath type effort. And Lil Wayne went after  Jay-Z to battle as “the best rapper alive.” However, Iverson and Lil Wayne’s efforts were not enough to stand above the best. Iverson will never be mentioned with Jordan and Kobe. Likewise, Lil Wayne may never be mentioned in the argument for top rappers of all-time (Jay-Z, Nas, Andre 3000, Eminem, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane).

Skills:

Lil Wayne’s wit and timing gave him an edge lyrically. Similar to a comedian, Lil Wayne’s punchlines can catch listeners off guard and cause them to think further about his lyrics. But while his lyrical timing was on point on the first three Tha Carter albums, his punchlines often fell flat and were just goofy on Tha Carter 4.
