Actor and producer Tyler Perry has yet again found himself in hot water. Terri Donald sued Perry late last year for $225K for allegedly basing his film, Good Deeds on a book she wrote in 2007. Perry is now being sued for copyright infringement by screenwriter William James for a 2009 screenplay called “Lovers Kill,” which became the basis for Tyler’s 2013 film Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
While this is the second copyright infringement lawsuit Perry has faced in the last year, several controversial accusations have overshadowed his reputation. In 2010, Johnny Tyrone Stringfield accused Perry of “revamping” his gospel song on TBS sitcom “Meet the Browns.” The song (allegedly written in 2008) appeared on Tyler’s show the following year.
Perry was also accused of using portions of the 1950 gospel song “When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus” without permission, in his film, Madea Goes to Jail, in 2009.
Fortunately for the Alex Cross actor, Tyler Perry Studios and Lionsgate Entertainment, a New York federal judge dismissed the current copyright infringement claim.
