Racist college student calls black classmates ‘monkeys’ on Twitter

Amanda Thurston is facing backlash over a racist post on Vine and Twitter that went viral. According the Tallahassee Democrat, Thurston, a junior at Florida State University, posted a video clip of the FSU campus on Vine and Twitter. The caption read, “Welcome to FAMU…I mean FSU #monkeyseverywhere.”

Thurston’s post created an immediate reaction from fellow students who called for her to be expelled for her comments. However, Thurston deleted all of her social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook and Vine) moments after the backlash started.

She also attempted to cover her mistake by going to the police and claiming that her Vine and Twitter accounts were hacked. Police have said that they will investigate, but it’s highly unlikely that someone hacked her account, walked the campus of FSU and posted the ignorant clip.

Thurston must own up to her mistake.

If Thurston is indeed responsible for the post, she should be arrested for filing a false police report and expelled from FSU for “racist speech.” FSU has a zero tolerance on such matters.

Students on campus will have a town hall discussion on the matter on Sept. 11.
