A Saudi Arabian toddler became the youngest person in the world to have gastric bypass surgery back in 2010. At that time, the boy weighed 72.7 pounds and had a body mass index of 44.1, which is the equivalent of the BMI of a 6 foot tall man who weighs 325 pounds.

The boy, who was born in the normal newborn weight range at six pounds and ten ounces, was 46 pounds by the time he turned one.  By the age of 14 month, doctors decided to put the overweight child on a diet to help reduce his BMI; however, over the course of the first four months, the child managed to gain an additional 17 pounds.

After the failed diet attempt and other health issues such as extreme sleep apnea and bowing of the legs due to his excess weight, doctors decided to take a more aggressive route — laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy or  (LSG). The doctors conducted the LSG, in which they removed an outer layer of stomach to restrict his food intake when the boys weight hit the 70 pound mark.

Within two months, the boy lost 15 percent of his body weight. Two years later, his weight had dropped from 72 to 52 pounds.
