Halle Berry to star as leading lady in CBS drama ‘Extant’

In July 2012, Berry was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a head injury on the set of her movie "The Hive."

Move over, Olivia Pope! Summer may be a rap but CBS has already given us good reason to look forward to next summer. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios will produce a 13-episode drama staring new mom Halle Berry, who will star as an astronaut who comes home after a year solo in space. Upon her return, Berry struggles to reconnect with her husband and son leading to a chain reaction of “history-changing events.”

Spielberg fans can tell you that his plots are normally complex and from what we’ve heard, Berry is taking on quite a challenging role. The Gothika actress, who was notified she got the big gig mid-week, issued a statement about her excitement saying:

“I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles, and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity, it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium. For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I’ll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one.”

Spielberg also issued a statement about Berry getting on board:

“There’s only one Halle Berry, and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career. As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her.”
