Turns out that Adrian Peterson had recently learned only he was the father of a 2-year-old boy in South Dakota, and then only saw him once — while the boy was on life support in the hospital.
Peterson just learned that he might be the father of the child of his ex-girlfriend when she had a paternity test done on another ex-boyfriend and it turned out negative. Afterward, the mother went to Peterson with whom she had a sexual encounter a few years ago, tmz.com reports.
Peterson, upon being informed that he might be the father, did not question the integrity of the mother and asked if he could help.
The record-breaking Minnesota Vikings running back had already planned a trip to South Dakota to meet the child for the first time, which was going to take place later this month. The news that the 2-year-old was beaten savagely by the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend and put into critical condition, Peterson immediately left the team and flew to Souix Falls, S.D. to see about the child whom he had yet to meet.
When Peterson saw the child on life support, it was the first time he had laid eyes on him.
The tabloid blog also reported that Peterson pushed to have the child’s organs donated should he pass away. The 2-year-old died from his injuries after Peterson returned to Minnesota Vikings team headquarters later that day.
