Here are the five most insane moments in sports from Oct. 7 until Oct. 13.
Atlanta Falcons upset by New York Jets
We start in Atlanta where on Monday night, the NFL’s biggest stage was set as the Falcons played host to rookie Geno Smith and the New York Jets at the Georgia Dome. Falcons fans were shocked in the first half as the Jets played great defense including a blocked punt in the second quarter and a goalline stance where the Jets stopped Falcon’s running back Jacquizz Rogers on the one yard line to end the half leading the Falcon’s 17-7. The second half saw the Falcons turn things up and Matt Ryan guiding them to a 28-27 lead with 1:54 left in the game. The Georgia Dome was rocking but was soon quieted as Geno Smith showed he’s growing up fast and drove the Jets 55 yards giving Jets kicker Nick Foles a shot at a 48 yard field goal which was all he needed to give the Jets the 30-28 victory and drop the Falcons to 1-4 going into their bye week.
Deion Sanders Fired from NFL Network
On Wednesday, NFL Hall of Famer and NFL Networks Deion Sanders allegedly got into an altercation with an employee of a school in which Sanders was one of the co-founders. Prime Prep Academy CFO Kevin Jefferson claims that during a meeting on Wednesday Sanders started getting upset as he was hearing that some of the students were performing poorly academically. Jefferson claims that after a heated verbal confrontation, Sanders grabbed his throat and kind of threw him to the floor. Sanders took to twitter saying that there was “no assault but, definite confrontation.” According to Prime Prep Academy representatives Deion Sanders is no longer an employee or represents the school.
Adrian Peterson’s son dies
On a sad note, Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson suffered the death of his two year old son. The son of Peterson died on Friday in Sioux, South Dakota from injuries that authorities say are consistent with aggravated assault. Police have charged Joseph Patterson with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. He is being held on cash bond of $750,000. Despite the death of his son, Peterson mustard the strength to play in the Vikings match up on Sunday against the Panthers where he carried the ball ten times for 62 yards and no touchdowns. Our hearts and prayers go out to Peterson and his family.
Michigan upset
Saturday, college football gave plenty of excitement with several upsets including Georgia falling to 4-2 as Missouri handed them their second loss on the season in a thriller between the hedges. The excitement continued as three top 25 unbeaten teams were handed their first losses on the season. Stanford, Oklahoma, and Michigan loss to unranked conference opponents. But Michigan falling to Penn St. was one for the ages as the two teams battled through four quarters and four overtimes. In the end, Penn State was able to score on a two yard touchdown run to get the victory.
Tom Brady defeats the Saints in the last second
NFL action continued on Sunday and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots did their part to contribute to all the fun as they faced off against the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees and the Saints marched into Foxboro with a 5-0 record on the season looking to improve to 6-0 but Brady and the Patriots had different plans. Both teams held their own as offensively and defensively each team kept the game close but it was late in the fourth quarter where the excitement picked up. With 3:29 left in the fourth, the Saints took a 24-23 lead with 34 yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills from Drew Brees. After the Patriots turned the ball over on downs, the Saints tacked on three more points with a 39 yard field goal from Garrett Hartley and 2:24 left on the clock. The Saints got the ball back after another turnover on downs by the Patriots with 2:16 left in the game but were not able to score and had to punt to the ball back to the Patriots with 1:13 left and we all know that’s plenty of time for Tom Brady who drove the Patriots 70 yards on eight plays for a 17 yard touchdown pass to Kembrell Thompkins with five seconds left in the game.
