Most people will not admit just how much they love their beer but Walter Serpit of Columbus, Ga., proved it through his actions on Thursday afternoon as he dashed into his burning home to save his beloved beer. Yes, you read that correctly… beer.
Serpit was home watching television when the room became filled with smoke. He immediately rushed to get the other five adults and two children out of the home. However, that wasn’t good enough for the man who walks with a cane. During his interview on Columbus local news he admitted that he’s an alcoholic and called himself a “dummy” after almost getting trapped.
“I told them to get the kids out and everything, and me myself, being an alcoholic, I was trying to get my beer out,” he said to WTVM. “I went back into the house like a dummy and the door shut on me because this back draft was about to kill me.”
The fire is believed to have started from a new water heater, but authorities are investigating.
