All over the world, hair extensions seem to be the new “it” factor for solidifying appearances for many women. Whether it’s on your daily errand runs, hitting the hot spots in the city or strutting the red carpet, a woman’s hair stands out. Mother and daughter Malesa and Miranda Jade Plater recognized this trend years ago and have taken the liberty to research and purchase the best quality of virgin bundle hair. The dynamic duo has officially gone into business launching their first location of Limelight Extension beauty bar in Detroit.

Malesa, a philanthropist and business investor along with daughter Miranda Jade who is a 23 year old college graduate of Bowling Green State University have surveyed a plethora of hair extensions and seem to have finally found what they consider “the worlds most luxurious hair.”

What are your entrepreneurial goals for Limelight Extensions?

Miranda: This is our first business that we have opened together, right now this is my main focus. This is my baby! My mom helped to set us up for this business venture and we plan to branch out essentially creating a chain of businesses in Michigan.

Malesa: We would like to have three more locations in Michigan but we are not ready to disclose any other information at this time about where they will be. Our initial thought was to take Limelight out of the state however, we first would like to give back to our state and become a force to be reckoned within this line if business. Nobody does luxury hair like we do here at Limelight.

What inspired the opening of Limelight?

Malesa: I have been a fan of hair extensions for many years. I used to go to California to purchase my hair because that was where the quality was at that time. My daughter and I both recognized that we lacked quality hair extensions here in Detroit.

Miranda: I personally just got tired of purchasing packs of beauty supply hair. I wanted something worth my money so I proposed the idea to my mother. I said, “Mom, why don’t we start to research h the best quality hair that we can find and start distributing ourselves?” Of course, she was on board. We know that there are more women who share the same feelings as we do about quality hair extensions so we wanted to make it available to them as well.

What is “luxury” hair and how is it different from other hair extensions?
Malesa: Luxury hair is quality hair. It’s hair that will last and that can be worn for long periods of time and still maintain its shine and look beautiful.

Miranda: Our hair is different from other hair because it is 100 percent virgin hair. It comes in a bundle and not a pack; it’s fresh. The hair that we sell can be dyed any color and also comes in many different colors as well.

What types of services can patrons expect from Limelight?
Miranda: Our primary focus is providing the best luxury hair possible. We want Limelight to be known for its hair quality and then we may expand our services to include makeup or other beauty treatments.

Malesa: Like my daughter said, our main focus is our hair products right now as well as offering deluxe hair installation services as well. We serve multicultural clients and we are able to offer a variety of installation techniques to suit all hair types. We provide fusion and beading installation as well. At Limelight, we want to treat out patrons like more than just a number. We ensure supreme services and a very comfortable atmosphere because we feel that’s important. Limelight Extensions creates a premium hair experience.
