Kanye West claims Kim Kardashian is more influential than Michelle Obama in fashion

When it comes being a supportive boyfriend, few are more passionate than Kanye West, who regularly champions his famous fiancée, Kim Kardashian. But that passion for his girl recently sparked a bit of controversy when he compared Kardashian to Michelle Obama and claimed that Kardashian has more style influence than First Lady Michelle Obama.

West brought up the topic during a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest in which he claimed that Kardashian should be a Vogue cover star.

“There’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday,” he said, noting that reality stars have often been overlooked by mainstream fashion magazines. “And collectively, we’re the most influential with clothing. No one is looking at what [Barack Obama] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [bikini] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.”

West went on to explain that classism is the problem and that the Obamas are seen as part of the upper class while Kardashian is seen as part of a lower class – even though all of them are rich. West applauded CR Fashion Book editor Carine Roitfeld for looking past that classism and putting his girlfriend on the cover of her magazine.

“[Former French Vogue editor] Carine Roitfeld supports my girl. That’s a breakthrough,” he explained. “There’s a wall of classism that we are breaking through.”

Well, we agree that Kardashian has major fashion influence, but it’s clear that West didn’t filter his words when he decided to throw Michelle Obama into the mix. Although it’s fair to acknowledge that fashion’s most influential people favor Michelle over Kardashian, it’s still more than fair enough to say Michelle is deserving of her top spot in fashion and that both women could shine with their own distinct styles.
