Why did you choose this field?
I began playing the piano and saxophone at the age of 9 and since then I’ve had a passion for music. Running hand in hand has been my second passion…basketball, which I’ve played since the second grade.
Have you always been athletic
Yes, I’ve always been athletic. It runs in my family.
If you had to choose one, would you choose music or basketball?
I couldn’t choose.
Did you always dream of being in the WNBA?
When the WNBA came into existence I was 12, and immediately dreamed of making it to the league. Those women represented the game I played with such poise, that I had to have a shot at that dream.
At what point in your life did you know this was the job for you?
I don’t believe there was ever a point of uncertainty. I’ve always loved basketball and music. I don’t know what my life would be without either. They coexist naturally in my world.
Why was it important to partner with the Health Equity Initiative?
It was very important to partner with HEI to build awareness in low socioeconomic cities. As an ambassador for the organization, I help to educate families on fitness, exercising, healthier eating habits and the many choices that are contributing to diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
What words of advice do you give to young girls who want to play in the WNBA?
Persevere, be determined, and be passionate.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
With a WNBA championship and a successful music career. My debut album hit stores October 22nd….
