Jay Z will not distance himself from Barneys. According to a recent statement, Jay Z revealed that he would continue with the launch of his fashion line at Barneys and will deal with the racial profiling issue.
After two black teens were victims of racial profiling at Barneys, some of Jay Z’s fans called on him to step away from his deal with Barneys to teach the department store a lesson. However, Jay Z believes it’s in his best interest to continue with the partnership.
In turn, Jay Z says he will sit on a council that will “deal the issue of racial profiling.” Jay Z also said that 100 percent of the proceeds received from the items sold will go to the Shawn Carter Foundation. Jay Z’s foundation will also receive an additional 10 percent of all retail sales from Barneys stores across the nation.
The deal seems to be favorable for Jay Z and his foundation, but it does nothing to stop hip-hop fans from labeling him a “sell out” because of his partnership with Barneys.
Below is how fans have reacted on Twitter.
