Fela Kuti became famous in the 1960s and 70s as the inventor of “Afrobeat” music. Kuti married 27 women. He claimed not to believe in AIDS or condoms. He died of AIDS complications in 1997 in Lagos, Nigeria. More than a million people attended his funeral.
