Thatcher had both personal and political reasons to oppose Mandela and the African National Congress.


She vehemently opposed sanctions against the racist, fascist South African regime because: 1) her husband, Denis, had business interests in the country and 2), She also harbored deep anti-communist convictions. The Russians were supporting the ANC, something that the Western world would not stand for.
