Looking back over the year, experts are seeing a change in the names parents are choosing for their children and why. According to information recently released by BabyCenter, the most popular baby names of the year aren’t trendy names but strong, traditional, family names with “meaning.”

When it came to choosing a name for their precious bundle of joy, BabyCenter found that the following weighed in heavily when narrowing down choices:

– 81 percent like classic names; 43 percent like very unusual, unique names.
– 80 percent finalized their name decision before the birth.
– 63 percent dislike the baby-naming trend of celebrity-inspired names.
– 54 percent say people they know are the inspiration for names.
– 39 percent looked to grandparents for inspiration.
