Years before the hip-hop community gravitated towards the skateboarding culture, Stevie Williams found himself captured by the sport as a kid growing up in Philadelphia. After a family member gave him a skateboard in the early ’90s, Williams began to hone his skills and soon realized skateboarding could change his life.

By the time he was 12-years-old, Williams was a sponsored skateboarder and earning $300 per month. He eventually turned pro and became one of the top skateboarders in the nation. But beyond being a top skateboarder, Williams had the wherewithal to start his own brand at 25.

Williams’ skateboarding line, DGK, signed a licensing deal with Reebook to create clothes and shoes. After the success of that venture, Williams decided to create a new brand called Asphalt Yacht Club. The clothing brand represents Williams’ story of beginning in one place and being able to strive for something greater.

He was quoted as saying: “My aspiration is to be successful. I want to make moves that benefit the movement. My dream is to see my homies and I get put on. I’m super determined to win.

The keys to making it on any level is research. You have to read, have passion and collect as many resources as possible. Make sure the people you follow are going in the right direction.”
